GRAINGER: Silently in her sleep, at Blue Water Rest Home, Zurich, Saturday, December 5, 2009, Violet Anne (Maslen) Grainger went to join Bill (1977) her beloved husband since 1931. Devoted mother and best friend of her daughter Donna and son-in-law Leonard Whaling of Grand Bend. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren, Vicki and her husband Barry Branston of Millgrove, Geoff Whaling and his wife Trisha Hessinger of Pennsylvania, Kelly Whaling and her friend Michael Flick of Grand Bend, Shawn Whaling and his wife Kelly of Morriston. Violet was a proud great-grandmother of Stefanie & Richard Lucas, Stephen, Colin and James. Violet was the last surviving member of the John and Daisy Maslen family. She was their first child born in Canada, after they came from England and settled in Penetanguishene. She is survived by the many nieces and nephews that she loved to babysit and by sisters-in-law Bernice and Donna. Muriel and Jim Butler of Stratford have always been her caring and best friends. Predeceased by her sisters Florence and Lily, brothers John, Albert, Roy, Horace and Lenard. While Bill spent 48 years working at Kroehler's, Violet donated her time helping at St. Paul''s Anglican Church, Stratford, teaching Sunday School, Girl Guides, Mothers Union and as warden. She also volunteered for the Cancer Society for many years. At Violets' request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation is to be followed by a private family interment service at Avondale Cemetery, Stratford, Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 11 a.m. T. Harry Hoffman & Sons Funeral Home, Dashwood, entrusted with arrangements. If desired, memorial donations to a charity of choice would be appreciated.
