Harry Hoffman's career in funeral service began in 1926 when he started
working with Peter McIsaac, undertaker in Dashwood. He received his
Ontario Embalmer's License in 1934, and purchased the undertaking business
upon the death of Mr. McIsaac in 1940. Seeing there was a need for a
funeral home is Dashwood and surrounding area, Harry built the first
residential funeral home in 1941. He prided himself in creating a reputation
of giving dignity to burial. His caring and compassion services to families
during their time of loss, as well as his love for his career, were
well recognized by the local community. Harry instilled those traditions
and values into two of his sons Robert and James, whom pursued careers
as licensed funeral directors. Robert, receiving his License 1968 and
James, in 1971, worked for many years alongside their father, and eventually
together purchased T. Harry Hoffman & Sons Ltd. Funeral Home in
1984. Harry, although no longer owner after this time, remained an active
funeral director. Residing at the funeral home, he never completely
retired from the funeral business. Harry continued to be involved daily
with the business right up to the age of 91, and would often be seen
greeting the community during funeral visitations.
